When a user types in a keyword(s) into a window in order to find information, a list of websites appear. These are ranked in order of popularity according to a number of criteria, most notably the number of backlinks they have. There are ten results on a normal search results page and the first one to three are paid advertisements. The remainder are called “organic results” and these are the ones that are optimized for the search engine “spiders” to easily find them.

Most users are concerned with obtaining more traffic for their sites and being on the first page of a major search engine such as Google is their goal. Using SEO methods can allow them to beat out a larger and more established site that has not been constructed correctly.

Search engine optimization really isn’t all that hard to accomplish, but it does vary according to different practitioners. Almost all of them though agree that it is important to make sure that the targeted keywords should be in the title, URL and H1 tags. This makes it easy for spiders or robots to distinguish what the site is all about.

The proper use of SEO on any website will increase its ranking on any of the major search engines. The best part is that it can be done fairly quickly by somebody with just a smattering of computer knowledge. It is the best and cheapest way to get more traffic and bring in new or repeat customers.
